ABOUT THE TOUR

The region around Chennai has served as an important administrative, military, and economic centre for many centuries. During 1st century CE, a poet and weaver named Thiruvalluvar lived in the town of Mylapore (a neighbourhood of present Chennai).[32] From the 1st-12th century the region of present Tamil Nadu and parts of South India was ruled by the Cholas.

DAY 1

MAHABALIPURAM TEMPLE

Shore temple of Dravidian style architecture, dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. The place hosts a lot of historic monuments like stone chariots, stone elephant carvings, Tiger cave, Krishna’s butter ball and so on. Many devotees visit this extremely beautiful temple located close to the shore. The monuments over here are said to be constructed between the 7th and 9th century. Kanchipuram, the city of silk, is also nearby.

VALLUVAR KOTTAM

This is a most prominent monument located in Chennai, India. This monument is dedicated to the veteran poet and philosopher ‘Thiruvaluvvar’ who wrote “Thirukkural”. If your trip is to travel in and around Chennai, then Valluvar Kottam is sure to be added in your ‘must visit places’.

CROCODILE PARK

“Crocodile Bank” is all about crocodiles, snakes, and other reptiles. This is one fantastic place that shouldn’t be missed while tripping to Chennai. The place is situated on the way to Mahabalipuram from Chennai which makes your money worth spending time there. It has got more than 100 varieties of alligators and crocodiles in a well developed environment.

BIRLA PLANETARIUM

This large planetarium in Chennai provides a virtual tour of the night sky and holds cosmic shows on a specially perforated hemispherical aluminium inner dome. It was built in the year 1988 in the remembrance of the profound industrialist and visionary of India B.M. Birla, it is the most modern planetarium in India.

VADAPALANI MURUGAN TEMPLE

For devotees of Lord Muruga, this temple is a must visit. There are very many sannidhis in the vast courtyards of the temple, like Varasiddhi Vinayaka, Chokkan?thar, Meenakshi Amman, K?li, Bhairava, Shanmuga with Valli and Devasena. The facade of this temple is crowned with a “Rajagopuram” adorned with several stucco images that depicts legends from the Skanda puranam.

FORT ST. GEORGE

It was called as the ‘White Town’, this Fort St George is the name of the first English, then it was known as British, fortress in India founded in the year 1644 at Madras(now known as the Chennai). They say, this fortress was the driving force for the further trading and settlement activity which was originally an uninhabited land. This shows that the city grew, transformed and evolved around this fortress.

BESANT NAGAR BEACH

This beach is a very nice place to hangout in the evenings. A nice place with all kinds of street food available throughout the beach and most importantly, the beach is very well maintained and kept clean. There are lot of eating joints on the beach road. Evenings are lively and a very good place to hangout.The beach is also not much crowded and is also a favorite beach for the college students and local families living in and around Chennai.

ASHTALAKSHMI TEMPLE

The temple measures 65 ft in length and 45 ft in breath. It is modeled after the Sundhararaja Perumal Temple in Uthiramerur. In this temple the eight forms of goddess Lakshmi are presented in four levels and in nine separate sanctums. The shrine of Lakshmi and her consort Vishnu is in level two.

MARINA BEACH

Marina beach in Chennai along the Bay of Bengal is India’s longest and world’s second longest beach. This predominantly sandy of nearly 12 kilometers extends from Beasant Nagar in the south to Fort St. George in the north. Chennai Marina beach was renovated by Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in 1880s. All tourists traveling to Chennai never miss visiting this grand Chennai beach.
