Kodaikanal is one of the most popular hill resorts in India. It is a charming hill station, stands amidst sylvan beauty on the southern crest of the upper Palani Hills near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. With its rocks, woods, lovely lake and bracing air, Kodaikanal is an ideal hill resort for the tourists. The unique flowering plant ‘Kurunji\'(Strobilanthus Kunthanus) that last bloomed in 2004, is nature’s gift to Kodaikanal. Kodaikanal located amidst the folds of the verdant Pali hills is one of the most popular serene hill stations in India, which mesmerises any visitor and is frequented all through the year.
Bryant Park is a botanical garden where you can get a wide knowledge on Horticulture and the various flora here are a feast to our eyes.
It is a narrow path (of length 1km) for pedestrians which runs along the steep mountains. A walk along this path will give you a delightful experience and one can view many places such as Pambar river, Dolphin\'s nose & birds eye view of Periyakulam from here.
This temple is around 2.5 kms from Kodai Lake and the Deity here is Lord Subramanya. According to Tamil Literature, Lord Subramanya is the God of \'Kurinji\' i.e. the hilly region. The Palani Hills and the northern plains can be seen from here.
This is the place where we can see 3 boulders measuring a height of about 122 m each standing side by side vertically offering a spectacular view.
Situated 8 kms away from the main ghat road is the Silver Cascade Falls noted for its clean & pure water and so the name Silver Falls . The Kodai Lake overflows and falls down here from a height of 180 feet. It is a wonderful scenery not to be missed in Kodaikanal.
Before 1800, the making of life-size wax figures wearing real clothes grew out of the funeral practices of European royalty. In the Middle Ages it was the habit to carry the corpse, fully dressed, on top of the coffin at royal funerals, but this sometimes had unfortunate consequences in hot weather, and the custom of making an effigy in wax for this role grew, again wearing actual clothes so that only the head and hands needed wax models. After the funeral these were often displayed by the tomb or elsewhere in the church, and became a popular attraction for visitors, which it was often necessary to pay to view.
There is also a Dolphin’s nose located in Kodaikanal, this requires a walk and a trek; so I suggest this is not suitable for every one.But the places, which you cross across to reach the Dolphin’s poem, offer excellent views of mountain and valleys.
The name itself clearly depicts that, it can relieve the tourists from all sorts of stress and pain. The calmness that it gives your mind is so precious which you can never experience or get it from anywhere else except from the nature. Silent Valley View is located in the Queen Of Hill Stations “Kodaikanal”.
Devil’s Kitchen is a deep hidden narrow valley that looks like small dark trenches but are deceptively deep, so be on your guard or have a local person to guide you through your steps!
